Moral Standards Don’t Change With Trends

Don’t confuse opportunism and corruption with morality. Trust your gut! Act on your values. Moral standards don’t change with trends.

Values, the what’s right and what’s wrong; what’s good and what’s bad, don’t change. Murder and theft, for instance, were, are, and will always be considered wrong.

Values don’t change with time, trends, or politics. Don’t be fooled! Just because the developments around you are weird doesn’t change moral standards. Moral standards don’t change with trends.

Times, economy, and politics, like the weather, change. Truth doesn’t. Right will always be right. Wrong will always be wrong. Abusing power, condoning crime, or violating human rights are felonies, not moral standards.

Even as you witness how violating basic human rights, demeaning intellect and higher education, and enriching oneself quickly through corruption attracts applause, don’t lose your moral compass. Remember that ill-gotten gains are short-lived, but the shame to come will last for generations.

Don’t be impressed by successful lawbreakers who are seemingly above the law. Consequences usually catch up with criminals. The time for reckoning will come. Sooner or later, truth and justice will prevail, and wrongdoers will be held accountable.

Meanwhile, don’t pretend to be blind and deaf; speak your truth. Stand by what’s right, honor and support individuals who fight for what’s right. Moral standards don’t change with trends.

Short-term success pales in comparison with the lifelong pride of having integrity, even under fire. New heroes and role models are emerging as we speak. Don’t be one of the sheep that mindlessly follow the flock. Decide what deserves your support and what doesn’t. Trust your gut! Act on your values. Conscience is unforgiving. You’ll have to live with yours for the rest of your life.
