Holistic Values

Regardless of your faith or lack thereof, you have an inner compass that tells you right from wrong. Sometimes, even the inner compass is guilty of omissions. The most common one is the lack of guidance for the ethical treatment of yourself.

Some examples of existing moral codes (based on ethical values) are laws and the Ten Commandments. Laws serve society. The Ten Commandments serve “God” and society.

The Humanist Holistic Church’s holistic values are different: ethics starts at home! Holistic values serve YOU and the systems you’re a part of.

These are the values of Holistic Religion.

1/ Be skeptical

2/ Do no harm

3/ Grow forever

4/ Strive for balance in life

5/ Strive for harmony in relationships

6/ Practice empathy

Be skeptical

Many sources of information are biased; many others share opinions instead of objective facts.
Don’t rely on opinions (including the “popular” and – sometimes – the “professional” opinion!). Check, double-check, and triple-check facts BEFORE forming your own opinion.
Don’t accept a person at face value, without pondering over their motifs, either.

Do no harm

If you do nothing constructive, good, or helpful, at least do no harm: not to a person, not to an animal, not to Nature, and not to property.

Grow forever

No human being – at any age – is a finished project. There is always more to learn. There is always the need to manage yourself, better.
Learn always. Strive to be self-sufficient and resourceful. Learn how to manage money well. Keep in mind that your money and resourcefulness = your freedom and your impact.

Strive for balance in life

Your health, wellness, and regeneration routine matter. Incorporate spiritual practice into your daily routine. (Just a brief meditation can restore your sense of wholeness and belonging.)
Your emotional wellness matters: surround yourself with people who share your values and support your goals. Limit the time you spend with people who disturb your inner peace to a bare minimum.

Strive for harmony in relationships

We come from different walks of life; we are different and unequal. That’s the beauty of life, that as different as we may be, we can enrich each other – in various ways – regardless.
Create and nurture mutually-supportive relationships.

Practice empathy

We all have pictures in which we smile. To some degree, we’re all pretenders. A public image is rarely a true reflection of a person. Everybody has problems, everybody hides some pain. Look beyond the surface. Don’t judge!

Try to prevent suffering. Try to relieve suffering. Have empathy for people, living creatures, the Earth, and things.

Each of us is lucky in some regard. Some have good health, some have knowledge or experience, some have a happy family, some achieved success, some are financially prosperous, and some have it all.

Share some aspects of what you have to prevent and relieve suffering.

So, these are the Holistic Values.

Holistic values are like reliable GPS. They don’t replace the driver, vehicle, or destination but make the trip better. Live in a way that leaves a minimal carbon footprint, but get the most out of life and leave a HUGE footprint of positive impact!
